MEET THE COUNCIL

Paul Fox

Genealogy was Paul's first love, but membership of the Cambridge University Heraldic & Genealogical Society introduced him to the fascinating world of the herald. He became President of that society in 1984, two years after David White. David organised a visit to Canterbury, where Cecil Humphery-Smith conducted one of his famous tours of the cathedral heraldry. This trip was to have a profound influence on the course of Paul's life as a consequence of the inspiration he received from both building and guide. He is currently writing a book on the heraldry of the Great Cloister, with the support and encouragement of Cecil, his mentor and role model. Paul is a physician by trade, as well as a medical and historical researcher, writer and educationalist. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College School of Medicine. His first paper on heraldry appeared in the "Coat of Arms" in 1988, and he hopes to contribute many more articles to that journal in the future. As well as being a member of Council, he is also a trustee of the Institute of Heraldic & Genealogical Studies.
