Elementary Examination

A sound basic knowledge of the following is required:

The ordinaries, sub-ordinaries and the most frequently used charges
The rules governing blazoning, emblazoning, hatching and tricking
Simple marshalling and cadency
The rules governing the field, party-fields and lines of partition
The achievement and its component parts
Personal and Corporate arms
The origin and development of heraldry
Sources of heraldic knowledge
The Officers of Arms in the British Isles and their duties
