The Mark Elvins Memorial Lecture: The Team GB Coat of Arms
6:30 pm 15 January 2020 The Society of Antiquaries, Burlington House, Piccadilly, Mayfair, London W1J 0BEClive Cheesman, Richmond Herald
One Olympiad ago, big-name partners from the worlds of sport and fashion decided to commission a ‘crest’ to drape around the sculpted forms of the nation’s representatives in Rio. Was a coat of arms up to the task of branding the modern body corporate and the modern body athletic? How did it fare under the pitiless gaze of social media? Will there be any Olympic legacy at all for heraldry?
Fellowship decorations to be worn.
