This illustrated lecture will explore the use of academic dress in heraldry from the 15th century to the present, featuring examples from Britain and abroad. It will survey academic regalia from different universities and colleges which has been used in personal and impersonal heraldry, consider the occasional challenges in ensuring accuracy and highlight the history, traditions and splendour of academic dress.
