Membership

Membership is open to all. Subscriptions help to further the aims of the Society and enable members to enjoy the privileges and advantages of membership.

Benefits of Membership

  • All members receive our quarterly publication, The Heraldry Gazette. The Gazette contains heraldic news and comment, and details of meetings organised by the Society and other societies outside London.

  • Members have the option of attending International and National Congresses, Symposia and Study Days.

  • A series of lectures and social events are organised each year. Details of the current programme can be found here.

  • Members may also subscribe to the Society’s journal, The Coat of Arms, which aims to present heraldry in a scholarly and readable way.

  • The Society awards certificates in Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced Heraldry. Members have access to our Examinations Board, and examinations are held annually. Read the examination syllabus here.

  • Members have access to our book, image and bookplate collections.

Additional Information

  1. For membership fees purposes “UK” covers Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. “Overseas” includes the Republic of Ireland and Continental Europe.
  2. Mailings to overseas members are sent by air mail. The additional cost for this (currently £16.00 a year) is incorporated into the overseas membership fees listed above.
  3. Members applying for student membership should provide proof of their age and/or that they are in full time education.
  4. The Society’s membership year is 1 January – 31 December. All membership fees are renewable on 1 January. Members joining part-way through the year pay a full year’s membership subscription and are sent the publications already issued in the year.
