Grant of arms to the Corporation of the town of Gloucester with seals (1) of Christopher Barker (Garter King of Arms) quartering Carlyle (2) Office of Garter showing a dove in the first quarter, alluding to the arms of the College of Arms. Gloucester was a borough until it became a city in 1541. In 1652 the city received different arms, which are now used.
